About Burk’s Falls

The Village, built on the shores of the Magnetawan River, is located just 2  ½ hours north of Toronto on the highway 11 corridor and 55 miles south of  North Bay. The recent completion of the four lane highway in the area has  dramatically improved traffic flow to and from the GTA. According to the  latest census there are approximately 476 homes and 976 residents in the  village itself but with the many beautiful lakes in the area the summer  population swells when all the cottage owners and campers come up.  There is also access to over 500km of OFSC snowmobile trails from Burks  Falls making it a year round tourist destination. It is one of the few towns  in the region with both both water and sewer infrastructure.

 Local Lakes around Burk’s Falls

With tourism being the main source of income for many people in the area,  the lake and river systems are a lifeline for the local economy. The  Magnetawan River, which begins in Algonquin Park, threads its way  through Burks falls en route to Georgian Bay just north of Parry  Sound. Ahmic Lake, Lake Cecebe, Neighick Lake and Midlothian Lake are  part of this 40 mile water system. Other lakes around Burk’s Falls that are  popular cottage areas include Big Doe Lake, Little Doe Lake, Pickerel Lake,  Three Mile Lake, Horn Lake and Sand Lake ner Kearney.

Burks Falls has a large array of services including Real Estate Offices,  Insurance, Laundry, Law Offices, Accountants, Banks, Grey Coach Bus  Terminal and a newspaper office. From a health care standpoint there is a  Medical center, Ambulance, Physiotherapy and a local Health Unit. There  are two deep water artesian wells with a capacity of over 120,000 gallons  of fresh water a day that service the towns water needs.

Churches

There are 7 churches in Burk’s Falls including Baptist, United, Anglican,  Presbyterian, Roman Catholic, Pentecostal and The Church of Christ.

Burk’s Falls Real Estate

The real estate market in Burk’s falls itself would be considered a stable  Buyer’s Market for early 2014 with the number of Homes for sale  averaging about 25 at any one time. The cottage market in the  surrounding area is stronger and more balanced with quality waterfront  priced at market value selling resonably fast. Larger lakes such as Doe  Lake, Horn Lake and Big Doe Lake are very popular can a command a  premium over smaller waterways and rivers. According to the Canadian  Real Association the median home price for all of Muskoka / Haliburton  was $216,500 as of June 2013 and the Burks falls area is just under that.  Cottages were just under $400,000 for Muskoka / Haliburton which is also  above the Almaguin area which includes Burk’s Falls.

There are usually between 20 and 140 waterfront cottages for sale in the  Burk’s Falls area depending on the season. There are many Realtors that  cover the region from several real estate brokerages. The Muskoka and  Parry Sound Real Estate boards have listings in the area.
